Most customers will not leave a review on their own. They tend to speak up when they are very happy or very annoyed, so the quiet majority in the middle says nothing unless you ask. And asking works: over 70% of customers will leave a review when a business requests one.
SMS is the best channel for that ask. Only 8% of consumers ignore texts from businesses and SMS review requests see a much higher completion rate than email requests. A short, well-timed text reaches people while the experience is still fresh.
The 30+ templates below are built around the moments businesses most often ask for feedback, based on years of helping companies run SMS campaigns. They’re short (under 160 characters), personal, and easy to act on.
If you want the strategy behind the timing and wording first, read our full guide on how to ask customers for feedback.

Rewarding the act of leaving honest feedback, whatever the sentiment, keeps you in the safe lane. Full details in the compliance section below.

When to send a feedback request text
Timing decides response rates more than wording. A few rules that hold up:
- Send while the memory is fresh. For most businesses that means within one to four hours of a service, or 24 to 48 hours after a delivery.
- Pick a sensible hour. Late afternoon and early evening tend to get the highest SMS engagement. In the US, staying inside 8 a.m.–9 p.m. in the recipient’s local time zone is not just polite, it is a TCPA requirement, and some states are stricter.
- Make the link one tap. Send people straight to the review page.
- Automate it. Set review requests to fire automatically after a purchase or appointment so the timing is always right. Textmagic automation handles this.
For the full method, including how to choose the right channel and handle responses, see how to ask customers for feedback.
Is it legal to text customers asking for reviews?
Yes. If you follow a few rules that most template roundups never mention. Get these wrong and the cost is not a lower response rate; it is fines. This section is general guidance, not legal advice. Rules change and vary by state and country.
- Get consent first (US). Under the TCPA, carriers and courts generally treat feedback and review requests as marketing, so you need prior express written consent before texting. An existing customer relationship alone is not automatic cover.
- Respect quiet hours. They are law, not etiquette. The TCPA restricts marketing texts to 8 a.m.–9 p.m. in the recipient’s local time zone. If your list spans time zones, schedule by recipient, not by your office clock.
- Honor opt-outs instantly. Every message must respect STOP and similar keywords. Textmagic handles opt-out processing automatically, so an unsubscribed contact never receives your next campaign.
- Never pay for sentiment. The FTC’s Consumer Review Rule (16 CFR Part 465) bans incentives conditioned on a positive or negative review. The FTC sent its first warning letters under the rule in December 2025, so enforcement is active.
- Don’t gate reviews. Screening customers first and sending the public review link only to the happy ones violates Google’s review policies and counts as review suppression under the FTC rule. Ask everyone!
- UK & EU. Under PECR and GDPR you need consent or a valid soft opt-in (your own similar products, opt-out offered at collection and in every message).
