What Is the Sitecore MVP Program? How to Become One

[ad_1]

Have you ever seen someone put “Sitecore MVP” in their LinkedIn bio and wondered what that actually means? You’re not alone. A lot of people in the Sitecore world have heard the term but don’t really know how it works, who qualifies, or why it matters. Let’s clear that up.

What Is the Sitecore MVP Program, Really?

MVP stands for Most Valuable Professional. It’s Sitecore’s way of saying thank you to people who go out of their way to help the Sitecore community, without being paid to do it. These aren’t Sitecore employees. They’re regular developers, marketers, consultants, and architects who spend their free time writing guides, answering questions, and helping others figure things out.

The program started back in 2008. Sitecore noticed the same small group of people kept showing up to help newcomers, write tutorials, and answer tricky questions. So they built a way to recognize that effort and, just as importantly, build a real relationship with those people.

Who Actually Becomes a Sitecore MVP?

You might picture MVPs as hardcore developers, and that used to be mostly true. Sitecore started out as a very technical platform, so early MVPs were mostly coders. That’s changed a lot.

These days, only about half the MVP community is made up of tech-focused people. The rest? Marketers, strategists, and customer-facing folks who know the platform inside out. Sitecore even added new MVP categories over the years, like Strategist and Ambassador, to make room for people who aren’t writing code but are still adding huge value.

So if you’re not a developer, don’t count yourself out.

How Does Sitecore Pick Its MVPs?

Here’s the part everyone wants to know. It’s not about one great blog post or a single conference talk. Sitecore looks at what you’ve done consistently, over the whole year.

The basic process looks like this: applications stay open all year but need to be submitted by the end of November. Once that deadline passes, a team of over 100 reviewers gets to work. This group includes existing MVPs, regional leaders, and category specialists. Every single application gets checked by at least two reviewers, and first-timers often get even more attention.

What are they checking for? Four things mainly:

The content you’ve created, like blog posts, videos, or tutorials
How active you are in the community, on forums, Slack, or at events
Public speaking, whether that’s a huge conference or a small local meetup
Feedback you’ve shared with Sitecore’s product team, or references that back up your impact

One thing worth knowing: you need to show proof. Links to your posts, recordings of your talks, screenshots, anything that proves the work actually happened. If reviewers can’t see it, they can’t count it.

What Counts as “Contributing” to the Sitecore Community?

Here’s where people often underestimate themselves. You don’t need to be everywhere all the time to qualify.

The ways people contribute have shifted a lot. A lot of the old Twitter/X chatter has moved over to LinkedIn. Podcasts, YouTube channels, short videos, even Sitecore content on TikTok all count now. Building tools for the Sitecore Marketplace or contributing to open-source projects is another solid way to add value.

You also don’t need to be good at everything. Some MVPs got there mainly through writing. Others by being active in Slack every single day. Some by speaking at events. Pick what you’re good at and stick with it.

And if public speaking scares you, that’s completely fine. Plenty of MVPs never touch a microphone. They build their reputation quietly, through writing or helping others in the background.

What Do You Actually Get as a Sitecore MVP?

Beyond the title, there are some real, practical perks.

Access is the biggest one. MVPs get closer to Sitecore’s community leaders, product managers, and other MVPs than almost anyone else. That includes early looks at upcoming features, shared under NDA before the public ever sees them.

You also get access to Sitecore Learning resources, extra training, and invite-only events like the Sitecore MVP Summit, where you hear about roadmaps and product plans before anyone else does. And it goes both ways: MVPs can give direct feedback to Sitecore’s product teams, and that feedback actually shapes what gets built next.

But talk to any MVP, and most will tell you the title and the perks aren’t even the best part. It’s the people. The friendships, mentors, and connections you build along the way tend to matter more than anything else.

How to Actually Become a Sitecore MVP: Simple Tips

Don’t start by asking “what will get me picked?” Start by asking what you actually enjoy doing. That’s what will keep you going for a full year, because burnout kills consistency fast.

Find a mentor. Reach out to an existing MVP, ask them questions, and learn from how they got there. Most MVPs genuinely love helping newcomers because that’s the whole culture the program is built on. A mentor can point you toward where you’ll naturally add the most value.

Stay consistent. Reviewers aren’t impressed by a sudden burst of posts right before the deadline. Small, steady contributions spread across the year matter way more than a last-minute sprint.

And don’t force yourself into a box that doesn’t fit. Hate public speaking? Skip it. Not a writer? Don’t force blog posts just to check a box. Do what actually excites you. That energy shows up in your work, and it’s exactly what reviewers notice.

Where Is the Sitecore MVP Program Headed?

Sitecore has said it wants to keep the program community-first as it keeps growing, protecting the same collaborative, welcoming vibe it’s had for years. There’s also a push to bring more customers directly into the fold and keep the community diverse, so it’s not just agencies and consultants in the room, but a wider mix of voices and experiences.

Conclusion

Becoming a Sitecore MVP isn’t about chasing a title or gaming the system. It comes down to real, steady contribution, whether that’s writing, speaking, mentoring, or simply showing up to help people in the community week after week. If you’re already active in the Sitecore world and genuinely enjoy sharing what you know, it’s worth putting your hat in the ring. And if you’re just getting started, don’t worry about doing it all at once. Find what you love doing, stay consistent, and the recognition tends to catch up on its own. Whether you’re exploring website development in Bangalore or working on app development in Bangalore, staying connected to platform communities like this one is a great way to keep learning and growing alongside people who know the ecosystem inside out.

The rest of the article stays exactly as before,  just this closing paragraph has been updated. Let me know if you’d like the keywords placed differently within it or want a slightly different tone.
