Netflix’s Billboard House, Skip Hop’s Diaper Rescues

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW THIS WEEK

This week’s hot takes on hot topics in experiential marketing cover billboard houses, wrench-themed pubs and pop-up diaper rescues.

NETFLIX TRAPPED A MAN INSIDE A BILLBOARD ALL WEEKEND

If a family was sealed inside their home with no escape, how long would they last before cracking? (Personally, we think it would depend on which loved ones were present). That’s the dilemma at the core of Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller, “The Last House.” So to promote its Aug. 7 premiere, the brand translated the movie plot into a billboard activation.

Yep, from Aug. 6-8, Netflix “trapped” a man inside a billboard that was perched 30 feet above Sunset Boulevard in L.A. While passersby looked on, the man carried out routine activities while donning a robe, like eating cereal and doing stretches, inside a fully furnished living room setting.

While sealed inside, the actor also alluded to the film, periodically communicating with people in the area by placing a whiteboard with handwritten pleas for help up against the “home’s” bay window.

As far as stunts go, we’d say Netflix just raised the bar several notches.

NEW YORKERS CHOMP ON THE ‘WORLD’S COLDEST TREAT’

Frozen treats and summer go hand in hand (lookin’ at you, Blizzard), but for people with sensitive teeth, they’re not so much treats as they are triggers. According to a 2025 U.S. Study of Tooth Sensitivity, 55% of consumers with sensitive teeth steer away from cold foods and drinks to avoid discomfort. But not on Sensodyne’s watch.

To demo how its Clinical Repair product starts mending sensitive chompers after 60 seconds, the brand partnered with chef Simon Davies to create the World’s Coldest Treat. The custom frozen dessert was crafted at -321 degrees Fahrenheit using liquid nitrogen, and was designed to create an intensely cold first bite.

Then on Aug. 6, Sensodyne and comedian Michelle Buteau invited consumers to 45Grand in NYC to take on a first-bite tasting challenge with the arctic dessert, and capture their reactions for social. Curated content moments and free tubes of Sensodyne Clinical Repair were also on the menu.

Now we just need the cure for brain freeze.

LONDONERS SWAP ALLEN WRENCHES FOR FREE PINTS AT TASKRABBIT’S PUB

Whether you call them Allen keys, hex wrenches or some combination thereof, those little metal instruments have a way of piling up. And at a local pub in Shoreditch, London, last month, Taskrabbit gave consumers a chance to rid themselves of the tools in exchange for free beer.

For one day on July 29, the brand opened up The Allen Arms (a takeover of The Horse & Groom), a bar where Allen keys were the only accepted form of currency. The concept? People should leave the frustration of furniture assembly to “Taskers,” and get back to doing what they enjoy.

In addition to free pints, the pub featured a DIY-inspired design scheme, and classic pub games, like beer mat-flipping, with a twist. A detail we love: All of the tools collected were responsibly recycled.

SKIP HOP COMES TO PARENTS’ RESCUE WITH POP-UP CHANGING STATIONS

According to research from baby gear company Skip Hop, 60% of parents find public diaper changes stressful, and nearly 40% delay the process to avoid public changing stations. In response, the brand came to the rescue. Literally.

Enter: the Clean Slate Diaper Rescue. In late July, Skip Hop fired up a branded “rescue truck” and rolled into high-traffic areas in NYC and New Jersey where finding a sanitary place for diaper changes is a challenge, and provided a changing station and supplies.

Brand ambassadors invited parents to stop by to learn about, and get hands-on experience with, Skip Hop’s on-the-go Clean Slate Changing Station, which featured free Hello Bello diapers and wipes, to understand how its products make diaper changes cleaner and more convenient.

And the trial was key—on-site diaper-changing stations ensured consumers weren’t just getting product education; they were given a real-time solution. And likely, a sigh of relief.

GET A WHIFF OF DOWNY’S FINE FRAGRANCE HOUSE

Doing laundry isn’t exactly glamorous, but Downy’s Boutique Botanicals and Unstopables Unlimited collections feature custom-scented beads designed to add a little luxe to the chore. And to prove that it takes its aromas seriously, the brand opened up the Downy Fine Fragrance House, where consumers can get a whiff of how the brand’s in-house perfumery operates.

From July 30 to Aug. 31 at a Walmart location in Charleston, SC, and from Aug. 8-23 at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, OH, Downy’s pop-up perfumery activation is taking visitors on a guided, interactive scent journey, including a “Squeeze & Sniff” experience with Downy’s newest fragrances, photo moments and giveaways. That’s fresh.
