When you take the time to fix something, you just appreciate it more. I felt this for the first time when I replaced the battery in an inexpensive digital watch instead of tossing it out. I still have that same watch 20 years later.
We’re committed to making products that last longer and are easier to repair — and since this month marks International Repair Day, we’re hosting a special repair education event at our Google Store in Chelsea, NY, on October 16. Some of the brightest minds and most thoughtful voices in repair, sustainability and policy will be there to talk about what it takes to build a more repairable future. Repair can be thoughtful, intentional and even beautiful — and you’ll learn how we’re building these ideas into our products.
You should have choices when it comes to repairing your devices — whether that’s getting a same-day professional repair or, if you’re feeling adventurous, doing it yourself. When products last longer, we all win; it’s better for your wallet and better for our planet.
For years, our teams at Google have been rethinking our design process to prioritize repairability. This year, that work culminated in the launch of our first cross-product repair ecosystem for the Pixel portfolio. By designing for longevity from the start, we’ve introduced tangible improvements, like the more serviceable Pixel Watch 4 and a replaceable battery for the Pixel Buds 2a case. The panel at our October 16 event will talk about this work and how we can keep advancing the industry.
