Google AI wants to do all of your shopping with wild new AI Mode

Google AI wants to do all of your shopping with wild new AI Mode

Google just announced a new AI mode for shopping with two big new features. The AI Mode will give users the option to try clothes on virtually, and if it’s a fit, the AI model will buy them for you.

The idea of virtual try-ons has been toyed with for some time, though AI has given the premise a strong toolbox to pull from. Generational AI allows users to create images out of thin air, and that’s exactly what Google aims to do to help shoppers find clothing.

Announced at Google I/O 2025, AI Mode is expanding to be much more helpful for finding furniture, clothes, and other products. AI Mode in Search is still young, and Google only began rolling it out this year. The mode allows for conversational web searches, narrowing down topics with AI overviews and nuanced answers.

AI Mode for shopping will supposedly help users generate ideas and find inspiration through more conversational searches. The Shopping Graph, in combination with Gemini, will power the feature, which means 50 billion online products will be available to browse.

In essence, users can give the AI Mode in Search details about what they’re looking for in a product, and the AI model will recommend products based on parameters and further suggestions. Google wants to be your new shopping assistant, and it’s getting very close.

To add a little more power to AI Mode for shopping, Google is also introducing a feature called “buy for me.” The new function will cut all of the website interaction out of the transaction, leaving Gemini to take your card and personal info and purchase the item for you.

This prompt will appear after an item’s price has been tracked with an alert for a certain price parameter. When that price is reached, the shopper can hit “buy for me” and let Gemini make the purchase.

The most exciting feature in this announcement has to be the “virtual try-on tool Google is rolling out. Also powered by Google’s Shopping Graph, virtual try-ons will be available with what seems like very little limitation. Google notes that the custom image generation model understands the nuances of clothing – the way it folds and falls on skin.

With that, it can accurately depict what the clothing will look like on the user, provided a picture is uploaded. This tool will act similarly to an image generation request, providing a generated estimation of what the clothing will look like on the person.

Google notes that both AI Mode and the “buy for me” feature will be rolling out “in the coming months.” AI virtual try-on, on the other hand, will be available via Search Labs starting today in the US.
