Some of the vulnerabilities patched in iOS 26.6 were potentially severe, capable of giving attackers access to the device and the sensitive data stored on it. Unusually, Apple’s security notes acknowledge the role of artificial intelligence in uncovering vulnerabilities. The company specifically credits Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s Codex Security, along with contributions from other AI platforms, underscoring how these systems are increasingly central to identifying and resolving potentially catastrophic bugs.
The update also adds transparency to a long‑standing limitation: the number of contacts a device can block. Although the cap has always been there, Apple has never disclosed the precise threshold. In the past, users had no way of knowing they’d reached it — but with iOS 26.6, the phone will now issue a warning once the limit is hit.
