When you create an ad and upload an image, you’ll get AI-generated options.

Meta Ads Image Generation

This includes versions of your creative with AI-generated background variations…

Meta AI-Generated Backgrounds

and also new AI-generated images inspired by your original creative.

Meta AI-Generated Image

When selected, they’ll be used in place of your original creative in some cases.

Breakdowns

The problem has been a lack of transparency. Advertisers have never known when these variations are used or how they perform.

Until now.

Some advertisers are seeing a new Creative breakdown option.

Creative Breakdown

When selected, you may see Image Generation. Other versions of this are floating around with Flexible Format and Related Media.

Meta will generate separate rows in your results:

  1. Original creative
  2. Image generation

Here’s an example…

I can’t confirm whether this includes both AI-generated images and backgrounds, but it definitely includes the images.

Also note that it appears all cases of image generation for a single ad are lumped together, so you won’t be able to break out performance by each image (assuming you’ve accepted multiple).

It’s not clear if this is just a test or part of an official rollout. But this could be a huge update to help determine how effective these enhancements are.
