Crop and Expand with AI

Meta is either testing or rolling out a new feature that can help optimize ad creative using AI. There’s a lot we don’t know.

Here’s what to look for…

How it Works

When you upload an image while creating an ad, you may see the option to “crop and expand.”

Using AI, this allows you to “automatically crop and expand your chosen media to fit more placements.” The option is available for the square and vertical placement groups.

What Does it Look Like?

What this looks like may be a bit of a mystery.

It would make sense if this fell under the Visual Touchups Advantage+ Creative enhancement.

That includes things like image cropping and expansion. But that also seems to be completely unrelated to whether the Crop and Expand option is checked.

Should You Use It?

Since how it appears is a bit of an unknown, this may fall into that bucket of enhancements where you just don’t know. That’s scary for a lot of advertisers.

This enhancement sounds good in theory, and I’ll probably activate it for my own ads. Maybe be a bit more careful depending on the account until we get more transparency.
