6 Dating App Events to Win Back Gen Z Users

Bumble announced that its signature rule is going away on Aug. 11. Since its founding in 2014, women have made the first move by starting the conversation with a match, but now, anyone in a match can send the first message.

Bumble’s shift is a response to changing dating habits, particularly among Gen Zers, who are opting out of dating apps and preferring to meet people IRL. Eventbrite found that low-pressure, hobby-based events designed for meeting people are booming. Experiences using “meet-cute” language have grown 117% in 2026, and the top activities are mahjong, trivia nights, birdwatching, Pilates socials, plant swaps and craft circles.

Recognizing the swiping fatigue, dating apps are tapping into these interests and getting creative with in-person events to bring singles back into their communities. And these aren’t the speed-dating events of old; we’re talking first dates in a rideshare vehicle, head-turning stunts, mechanical bulls and docuseries screenings. Let’s dive in.

Chispa’s ‘Lucky Losers’ Campaign

Chispa, a dating app designed for U.S. Latinos, flipped the script on the grief that comes from watching your favorite team lose during the FIFA World Cup 2026 by launching the “Lucky Losers” campaign. Chispa gathered single fans at Dallas watch parties, and at the end of the matches, sent two heartbroken fans off in the backseat of a custom-wrapped Alto car to get to know each other.

A Latino streamer rode shotgun as wingman to help get the conversation rolling, and the two participants scored dinner on Chispa if the ride went well. Across two live watch parties at Christie’s in Dallas, nine couples found a match, ultimately delivering them to a brand-hosted date at Leela’s Wine Bar. (Agencies: Beautiful Beast; Need Pastel)

Seeking’s Mechanical Bull

Luxury dating site Seeking became the first dating platform to stage an activation at Revolve Festival, and it took influencers on a wild ride. The centerpiece of the carnival-themed footprint was a mechanical bull, challenging attendees to jump on “for the ride of your life.” The activation marked the beginning of the brand’s pivot toward experiential marketing, as it continues to evolve away from its original model under SeekingArrangement and reach a new demographic.

Taimi’s ‘Ghost Town’ Stunt

LGBTQ+ dating app Taimi shed light on the frustrations around ghosting with a “Ghost Town” stunt that saw dozens of human “ghosts” invade L.A. and New York City in April. Dressed in flowing white sheets with accessories denoting distinct personalities, like “Disco Cowboy” and “Corporate Ghost,” the ghostly brand ambassadors moved silently through West Hollywood and the West Village, embodying the true ghosting experience of being ignored, unseen or left mid-conversation.

When engaged, the ghosts replied with, “Been ghosted? Try Taimi,” and a few carried signs with messages like “These are the only ghosts you should see. XOXO Taimi.” The “Ghost Town” campaign was also supported by OOH elements, and a branded bus rolled through NYC with a cheeky phrase: “Stop Getting Put Through the Grinder.” (Agency: Komodo Media)

BLK’s ‘Mama’s Boy’ Initiative

BLK, a dating app for the Black community, helped users reclaim the “mama’s boy” label with a multiplatform campaign that both challenged the stereotype and offered opportunities to reflect on it. The brand first released a three-part mini-docuseries featuring three Atlanta-based creators and their mothers having candid conversations.

Then, BLK hosted a Mother’s Day Creator’s Brunch in Atlanta on May 9, bringing together Black male creators and the women who raised them. The attendees watched the docuseries and a live panel exploring the values passed down through Black families. The event also included a bouquet-making station and a custom BLK greeting card suite, where sons crafted handwritten letters for their moms.

HER’s Hotline and Live Roasts

HER, a dating platform for LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary people, hit the streets of NYC in April to launch its campaign, The Sapphic Standard, zeroing in on intentional dating. HER posted tear-away flyers directing passersby to a mysterious confession line: The Sapphic Standard Hotline. Callers were invited to share the worst things someone has done on a date, while prompts celebrated the gestures that actually raise the bar. Plus, in front of the posters, local comedians hosted pop-up sidewalk roasts.

BONUS: Womanizer’s ‘Wall of Red Flags’

On May 30, Women’s sexual wellness brand Womanizer popped up the “Wall of Red Flags,” an interactive public activation in NYC where singles anonymously shared the biggest dating red flags they’ve experienced. The brand invited participants to write everything from bad date behaviors to commitment issues directly onto the installation, and the wall became a conversation starter, with passersby on Lafayette Street stopping to read submissions, share their own dating stories and connect with fellow visitors.

The opposite side of the installation offered a more optimistic perspective, revealing the Womanizer Enhance product as the activation’s “ultimate green flag,” styled as a museum artwork. Attendees could also enter for a chance to win Womanizer products.
