As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, Google is announcing a partnership with the US Men’s and Women’s National Teams to integrate additional themed features into Google Search.
Google Search recently underwent a complete overhaul. The changes were announced at Google I/O 2026, consisting of a more seamless transition switching between AI Overviews and AI Mode, as well as a higher focus on contextual queries. It’s all part of a push to reposition Google Search as a web-themed chatbot.
The US Men’s and Women’s football/soccer National Teams will dawn Google as an official partner starting on May 26. The extent of the partnership will be unveiled at the 2026 US Men’s National Team Roster Reveal, where the full lineup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be announced.
On Google’s side of things, the integration simply means AI Search will be advertised as the go-to way for researching all things US Soccer. Google explains:
Together, we’ll show fans why Search is the best place to explore every facet of the game, where the deeper you go, the more there is to appreciate. With AI in Search, it’s easier than ever to follow your curiosity and ask Google anything — whether you need a quick match score or want to understand the physics behind a bicycle kick.
For those in Venice, CA, during the World Cup, Google will be hosting a Nano Banana-powered photo booth event that “puts fans right in the center of the action.” As for in-app experiences, it doesn’t seem like anything substantial has been announced. Bicycle kicks can be researched in Search, the same as before.
This comes as Google recently announced several other sponsorships revolving around the Pixel phone and Gemini. Both Argentina and France signed on as sponsored teams, with the National Teams expected to wear Gemini branding on select apparel.
Additionally, Google has managed to secure YouTube as the “preferred platform” for the World Cup, but that won’t mean major broadcasting networks will be barred from streaming the competition, as expected.
