It seems like the wait might be over, and the Google Pixel 10 series will get Qi2 magnetic charging, including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
In past iterations of the Pixel Fold, the common outcome seems to be a device that boasts high-tech displays and multitasking ability, with a few corners cut. That has always included wireless charging speed and camera layouts.
According to a leak via @evleaks on Twitter, it seems that may have changed. The leaker states that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be “Qi2-compliant.” Compliance and readiness are two different things, and OEMs will use the term “Qi2-ready” to symbolize their ability to fast-charge without the magnetic hardware. Qi2 compliant, on the other hand, tells a story that says the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will, reportedly, have magnetic charging.
This comes as recent reports indicate the Google Pixel 10 series will be thicker and heavier this year, which gives weight to the idea of magnetic Qi2 charging on these devices. It doesn’t appear that the charging speed will be bumped to the highest Qi2 can offer. Other reports have noted that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will get 15W charging, not 25W.
The leak also makes mention of the rumored delay. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is likely to be pushed out to October. Specifically, this leak pinpoints October 9 as the launch date for both the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 4. The main Pixel 10 lineup will launch on August 20.
Qi2 has been a big talking point for Android devices, and the Pixel 10 series will be the first highly popular set of devices to get built-in magnets for accessories and charging, beating out Samsung and the like. Google’s rumored “Pixelsnap” accessory lineup will undoubtedly be a massive addition for Google, and other accessory makers will follow shortly after with tons of magnetic cases and products that weren’t feasible before.
