International travelers spent a record $254 billion in the US last year. Things look notably different this year.
White House travel bans, a constant barrage of insults, and hostility towards all sorts of people have quickly led to the possibility of billions of dollars in losses for the US travel industry, as Canadians, Mexicans, and Europeans hesitate to travel to the US.
According to Fortune, Canadian flight reservations to the U.S. are down 70% through September versus the same period last year. This massive shift in spending poses a significant threat to companies in the retail, hospitality, and entertainment sectors, as well as American jobs.

“Tourism is synonymous with New York State, thanks to all of our amazing attractions, from beaches to high peaks, from the Erie Canal to iconic museums and performing arts venues,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said.
“This vital industry is facing challenging new political and economic headwinds. That’s why supporting our tourism industry is more important than ever, and why we are getting out the message that no matter where you’re from, you’re always welcome in New York State,” she added.
