How to Guest Post for Buffer

đź“…

Applications are now open for our first contributor cohort. Deadline: July 28.

We’re excited to launch the new and improved Buffer Guest Post Program — now cohort-based and built around a central theme each round.

This isn’t your typical open submissions call. Instead, we’re creating a more intentional, collaborative space for creators to share the systems, workflows, and strategies that have helped them grow.

We believe consistent social media growth comes from finding what works and building on it — and those are exactly the stories we want to tell.

Why we’re launching this program

In the past, we accepted guest post submissions year-round, but our small Content team struggled to keep up with the volume. It was hard to stay aligned with Buffer’s evolving focus, and harder still to give every piece the care it deserved.

This new cohort-based model is designed to change that.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Applications are only open during specific windows (starting now!)
  • We’ll select a small group of contributors (fewer than 10 per round)
  • We’ll provide prompts, templates, and async editing support
  • Each story will be published on the Buffer blog and shared with our audience of hundreds of thousands

This is a more intentional, more collaborative way to spotlight real creators doing great work.

⚠️

Note: This is not a paid freelance writing opportunity — it’s for creators, marketers and entrepreneurs who want to share their actual experience. More on that below.

Why write for the Buffer blog?

We’ll support you from draft to publishing — and make sure your story reaches the right people.

Each contributor gets:

  • A full byline, bio, and headshot on the Buffer blog
  • A chance to work with our Editorial team and learn how we write and edit blog posts at Buffer
  • A spot in a curated cohort of creators sharing real, actionable stories

And when it’s time to publish, your piece will get the spotlight it deserves. Each guest post and guest poster is:

  • Highlighted in our weekly newsletter
  • Promoted across Buffer’s social channels to an audience of thousands
  • Published in a staggered publishing schedule — so every story has space to shine
  • Facetime with our community of creators, solopreneurs, and marketing professionals.

If you want to grow your brand, refine your writing, and get featured alongside expert creators, this is for you.

This round’s theme: ‘The System That Helped Me Grow on Social’

We’re kicking things off with a theme we’re hearing everywhere: What’s the system that made it sustainable?

We’re looking for real stories from creators, marketers, and entrepreneurs who’ve built repeatable, creator-friendly systems that are working right now. That might be a content workflow, a platform strategy, or even a mindset shift that changed how you show up.

We’re especially excited about systems tied to emerging platform behavior — like Threads posting routines, Instagram batching, or LinkedIn carousels. But the system doesn’t have to be flashy — just something real that helped you stay consistent and grow.

A few examples:

If you’ve built something that works — and you want to help others do the same — we’d love to feature your story.

The next step to joining the program: Send us your pitch.

What makes a strong pitch?

In pitching an article on your system, ask yourself:

  • Does my system help solve a common challenge for creators or marketers?
  • Can I clearly walk readers through the exact steps I took?
  • Am I comfortable including examples, screenshots, or results?
  • Is this tied to a specific platform or workflow (e.g. Threads, LinkedIn, Buffer)?

Some pitch ideas that would be 👍🏾

  • “How I used a newsletter to drive 1,000 followers to Threads in 30 days”
  • “How batching Instagram Reels weekly helped me stop burning out”
  • “The Notion system I built to plan a year’s worth of content”
  • “What happened when I posted carousels daily for a month”

How the program will work

Here’s what to expect if you’re selected for the cohort:

1. Submit your pitch: Apply using the form below. We’re looking for concise, clear pitches that align with the theme: “The System That Helped Me Grow.”

đź’ˇ

Bonus tip: If Buffer was part of your system (even in a small way), feel free to include it. We love when stories reflect how tools support your strategy — even if they’re just one piece of the puzzle.

2. We’ll review and get back to you quickly: Once applications close, we’ll select a small group of contributors and notify you by mid-August. If accepted, you’ll get a welcome email with next steps.

3. Work with us to shape your story: We’ll guide you through the writing process — from idea to final draft. Each contributor will receive:

  • A writing brief and content template
  • Light coaching on your angle and structure (via email or Discord)
  • Asynchronous editing support with clear, actionable feedback

We’re here to help you tell your story clearly and confidently — no matter your writing experience.

4. You get published! Your article will be:

  • Published on the Buffer blog with a full byline, bio, and headshot
  • Promoted across Buffer’s newsletter and social media channels
  • Staggered in a weekly publishing schedule so every story gets space to shine

✒️

Note: The strongest pieces include real examples and real results. Be sure you’re comfortable sharing metrics, screenshots, or honest reflections before submitting.

Timeline

  • July 17: Applications open
  • July 28: Applications close
  • August 18: Cohort kickoff: writing begins
  • September 15: Articles begin publishing weekly

Who should apply?

This call is for you if:

  • You’re a creator, marketer, entrepreneur, or community builder
  • You’ve grown on a platform using a repeatable system or sustainable process
  • You’re excited to share what worked (and what didn’t)
  • You can commit to drafting an article in August and September with our support

Who shouldn’t apply

This isn’t a fit if you’re:

  • A freelance writer pitching unrelated blog topics
  • Looking for a paid blogging gig or a regular contributor role
  • Hoping to link-build or promote unrelated products/services

We’re looking for real stories from real creators, not polished pitches from content agencies or ghostwriters.
