In late October I visited Miami, seeing firsthand how students and educators at Southwest Miami Senior High School and Miami Dade College are using AI. From Gemini to NotebookLM to YouTube’s Ask tool, these products were baked into the curriculum of classrooms and student projects, enabling new ways of interacting with course materials.
One of the teachers who I spoke with, Jessica Collazo, is reimagining how our tools can be used to help students better retain information following a recent exam. During my visit to her class, students used a class notebook on NotebookLM to review their test questions and Gemini’s Guided Learning to delve deeper into why they may have gotten an answer wrong. This use of the tools allowed her the chance to move around the room and offer individual attention to more students, gaining back essential time to support her classroom.
