When you create an ad, you can select AI-generated image options. You could add completely new AI images that are inspired by your original creative.
Or you can select from various AI-generated backgrounds.
When you do, these versions are included with your original creative as options. The question is how often and how they perform.

You can view this using the creative breakdown. If you have this option, select “Image Generation.”
Then you’ll get separate rows for your original image and generated images. Here’s an example where more than 40% of my budget was spent on the generated images.
For what it’s worth, I only used background versions. The fully-generated AI images are slop.
The results are about the same. In fact, the cost per conversion is nearly identical. But again, these weren’t radically different versions so that’s not all that surprising.
Still, it’s helpful to see how much Meta is choosing these images over the original. If you’re using Meta’s AI-generated image options or unsure if you should, I encourage you to run a test and use this breakdown.
