Today Google DeepMind and Google Research are launching a public preview of Weather Lab, an interactive website for sharing our AIweather models, and debuting our newest experimental AI-based cyclone predictions.
While still experimental, our goal is to continue to work on this technology to help weather agencies and emergency service experts better predict a cyclone’s path and intensity.
Here’s a recent example of how this technology works. The below animation shows a prediction from our experimental cyclone model from March 2, 2025. Our model (shown in blue) accurately predicted the paths of Cyclone Honde and Garance south of Madagascar, and captured the paths of Cyclone Jude and Ivone in the Indian Ocean almost seven days in the future.
