At Regpack, the magic doesn’t just happen on the surface — it’s powered by the tools working quietly in the background. Enter our API: the backstage crew is making sure every system talks to each other without missing a beat. From customization to integrations, the API is what keeps data flowing smoothly.
This month, Codey sat down with Andrew, Head of API Development (and part-time jazz aficionado), to chat about hidden features, automation wins, and how a little “tentacle hands” thinking can make life easier for every client.
“APIs are like the glue that holds complex systems together. When they’re working well, you barely notice them — and that’s the point.” — Andrew, Head of API Development
Q: Be honest—how often do clients just ask you to “make it work with everything”?
Andrew: All the time! And honestly, the API already does a lot. It’s optimized around creating, manipulating, and extracting user data. Most of the time, I point clients to the docs, and their dev team takes it from there. For features we don’t have? We listen, we evaluate, and sometimes we expand the API’s functionality.
Q: What’s a hidden gem in the API most people don’t know about?
Andrew: Instead of running get_info for each user, you can run get_user_list and include the fields you need. It’s paginated, but it massively cuts down the number of calls required. Saves tons of time.
Q: Security is a big deal—how do you keep the bad guys out?
Andrew: We use API tokens, emails, and IDs to authenticate and lock everything down. For the really nitty-gritty, our security team are the true wizards there.
Q: If Regpack’s API were a superhero, what powers would it have?
Andrew: Tentacle hands! A great API unifies the logic of a massive system and makes it easy to manipulate. You need arms everywhere at once.
Q: Any quirky touches in the API that clients might stumble on?
Andrew: Jazz references in the documentation. Bill Evans, Ron Carter, harmonic progressions… Sometimes another musician will catch them, and that always makes my day.
Q: What’s on the horizon for the API?
Andrew: We’ve already added the ability to create products and categories. Next up is expanding those tools based on client requests. The roadmap is shaped by what our users actually need.
Q: Why APIs, and what keeps you passionate about them?
Andrew: For me, APIs are like music. Press a button or play a note, and something amazing happens. Designing systems that come alive feels a lot like composing. It’s magic.
From hidden efficiencies like get_user_list to jazz-infused documentation, Andrew shows how Regpack’s API is more than just code — it’s a framework for efficiency, flexibility, and a little fun along the way. Whether you’re syncing systems or saving hours of manual work, the API is here to keep things running like clockwork.
