Google invests in its first data center in Sweden.

Today, we broke ground on a new data center in Horndal, Sweden, to help meet the growing demand for the Google services people and businesses use every day, including Search, Google Cloud and YouTube. The new data center will generate 100 direct jobs and marks a key moment in our long-standing presence in Sweden, which began with our first office in 2004. This facility will help more Swedish businesses, creators and developers innovate and grow.

The new facility is designed with sustainability in mind and will be air-cooled, limiting water use, and will be ready for off-site heat recovery to provide heat to local homes and businesses. This builds on our long-term commitment to sustainability in the country, where we’ve supported the addition of more than 700 megawatts of renewable energy to the grid since 2013.

To support local growth, we’re also launching a EUR 5 million fund for community initiatives focused on education, sustainability and workforce development. This investment will help create jobs and ensure the digital economy creates opportunities for everyone in the region.
