Welcome to a very special Travel Tuesday edition! On Friday, April 3, 2026, CreativeMornings Charlotte celebrated its 10th anniversary inside the Frozen set at ImaginOn Childen’s Theater of Charlotte stage, and the morning landed on the very first day of Charlotte SHOUT! The lessons? Profound. The cake? Incredible. The sponsor singalong? Gloriously unhinged, as usual.

Since moving to Charlotte in 2019, I’ve attended over 60 CreativeMornings events. It’s more than a monthly meetup. It’s the heartbeat of Charlotte’s creative community, and watching it grow alongside events like Charlotte SHOUT! is one of my favorite 2026 Travel Tuesday adventures in the Queen City. A Magical Spring Break Kickoff

Because it was the first day of CMS Spring Break, the theater was filled with kids alongside the usual buzzy crowd of local artists and creative pros. As a mom of three all-grown-up kids, watching pint-sized creatives running around inside ImaginOn was pure joy. What a relevant reminder that imagination starts early and grows bigger and stronger in a creative community.

On April 3, the chapter’s 10th anniversary called for cake, and Manolo’s Bakery delivered. For 28 years, this purpose-driven Charlotte small business has perfected Latin bread traditions and elevated the beloved Tres Leches Cake. Made in America by immigrant hands and dedicated to social action, Manolo’s Bakery is exactly the kind of community partner that makes Charlotte so authentically Charlotte.

Three Perspectives on Ember Meanings

April’s CreativeMornings global theme is “Ember,” and how completely appropriate to live out this theme inside an ice castle on the stage of Charlotte Children’s Theater production of Frozen. Matt Olin, co-founder of CreativeMornings Charlotte, introduced the theme focused on external support; Robert Krumbine, Chief Creative Officer at Charlotte Center City Partners, focused on internal discipline; and as a keynote speaker, branding expert, and 60-event CreativeMornings fan, I’m adding my own take on what it means to empower yourself and tend someone else’s spark.

Matt Olin on Ember Tenders

Matt Olin, co-founder of Charlotte Is Creative alongside co-host Michelle Guobadia, opened with a welcome that warmed the room. Embers, he reminded us, don’t burst into flames on their own. They need someone to lean in close, believe in the heat, and help it catch.

Matt opened with a simple idea: embers don’t ignite on their own. They need someone to see the spark and help it catch. His wife, Sarah Olin, is a leadership coach here in Charlotte who tends those sparks for leaders every day. Kristen Anderson-Lopez, an EGOT award-winning songwriter with her husband Bobby, grew up performing right here at the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. The coaches and communities that shaped her? Also Charlotte.

One city. One ember. Endless ripple. The ripple effect of one ember tender reaches farther than we’ll ever fully know.

Robert Krumbine on Practice

Robert Krumbine, Chief Creative Officer at Charlotte Center City Partners, knows a thing or two about making spectacular things look effortless. From riding city buses in Miami as a kid to producing the Star Trek World Tour in Germany, he’s built a career on the steady heat beneath the visible spark.

His most memorable line of the morning: “The wow moment is never the whole story. The real work is the steady heat underneath it.” He closed with a framework every creative in the room could take home: Spark (the idea), Shelter (protecting it), Fuel (daily habits), and Share (bringing it to your community).

My Perspective: Becoming an Ember Tender

Sitting in the audience, I looked at everyone there as sparks that fuel creative fires. Tending an ember is fundamentally about empowerment. In personal branding and thought leadership, you don’t have to wait for someone else to spark your fire. You can become an ember tender for yourself by investing in your own brighter presence every single day.

You can also be an ember tender for your community. Every time you leave an encouraging comment, recommend a peer for a speaking gig, or shine a light on a hidden gem in your industry, you’re blowing oxygen onto someone’s creative spark. Visibility isn’t a solo sport. It’s a community effort, and Charlotte’s creative community proves that as a living ecosystem. Charlotte SHOUT! Made Visible

Stepping outside ImaginOn, attendees walked directly into the opening day of Charlotte SHOUT! For Travel Tuesday, the city itself became the destination. A three-story interactive alien greeted us. Dinosaurs in sweaters lined the sidewalk. Oversized, artist-designed Easter eggs are scattered throughout Green, inviting everyone to wander, discover, and play.

It all looks effortless. It isn’t. Every delightful moment is the result of planning, coordination, and community partnership. That’s exactly what Robert Krumbine was describing from the stage. Even whimsy has infrastructure. Looking for creative inspiration? Charlotte SHOUT! runs through April 19 with free art installations, events, and ticketed programs.

If the morning was about tending embers, Charlotte SHOUT! is proof of what happens when an entire city catches creative fire.

Personal Branding Lessons for Creatives

Visibility doesn’t begin when the audience applauds or buys art or when someone likes a post. It begins in the quiet, consistent work that happens long before the spotlight arrives. It’s the draft before the published post. It’s the rehearsal before the keynote. It’s the relationship built before the referral arrives.
